Red and processed meat consumption and risk of pancreatic cancer: meta-analysis of prospective studies
نویسندگان
چکیده
BACKGROUND: Whether red and processed meat consumption is a risk factor for pancreatic cancer remains unclear. We conducted a meta-analysis to summarise the evidence from prospective studies of red and processed meat consumption and pancreatic cancer risk. METHODS: Relevant studies were identified by searching PubMed and EMBASE databases through November 2011. Study-specific results were pooled using a random-effects model. RESULTS: Eleven prospective studies, with 6643 pancreatic cancer cases, were included in the meta-analysis. An increase in red meat consumption of 120 g per day was associated with an overall relative risk (RR) of 1.13 (95% confidence interval (CI)1⁄4 0.93–1.39; Pheterogeneityo0.001). Red meat consumption was positively associated with pancreatic cancer risk in men (RR1⁄4 1.29; 95% CI1⁄4 1.08–1.53; Pheterogeneity1⁄4 0.28; five studies), but not in women (RR1⁄4 0.93; 95% CI1⁄4 0.74–1.16; Pheterogeneity1⁄4 0.21; six studies). The RR of pancreatic cancer for a 50 g per day increase in processed meat consumption was 1.19 (95% CI1⁄4 1.04–1.36; Pheterogeneity1⁄4 0.46). CONCLUSION: Findings from this meta-analysis indicate that processed meat consumption is positively associated with pancreatic cancer risk. Red meat consumption was associated with an increased risk of pancreatic cancer in men. Further prospective studies are needed to confirm these findings. Meat consumption and risk of colorectal cancer: a meta-analysis of prospective studies.
Accumulating epidemiologic evidence indicates that high consumption of red meat and of processed meat may increase the risk of colorectal cancer. We quantitatively assessed the association between red meat and processed meat consumption and the risk of colorectal cancer in a meta-analysis of prospective studies published through March 2006. Random-effects models were used to pool study results ...
متن کاملRed and processed meat consumption and gastric cancer risk: a systematic review and meta-analysis
The associations between red and processed meat consumption and gastric cancer risk have remained inconclusive. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to analyze these associations. We searched PubMed and EMBASE to identify studies published from inception through October 2016. Subtype analyses of gastric cancer (gastric cardia adenocarcinoma and gastric non-cardiac adenocarcinoma) ...
متن کاملA review and meta-analysis of prospective studies of red and processed meat, meat cooking methods, heme iron, heterocyclic amines and prostate cancer
Prostate cancer remains a significant public health concern among men in the U.S. and worldwide. Epidemiologic studies have generally produced inconclusive results for dietary risk factors for prostate cancer, including consumption of red and processed meats. We aimed to update a previous meta-analysis of prospective cohorts of red and processed meats and prostate cancer with the inclusion of n...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Prospective studies of red meat consumption and risk of stroke have provided inconsistent results. We performed a meta-analysis to summarize the evidence regarding the effects of red meat (fresh, processed, and total) consumption on stroke risk. METHODS Studies were identified by searching the PubMed database through May 26, 2012, and by reviewing the reference lists of...
